Throughout history, our Lord has consistently chosen individuals who might appear to be the most unlikely candidates to shepherd His flock. Take, for instance, Gideon—a humble farmer who, despite his doubts, heroically led an outnumbered army to victory (Judges 6-7). His story teaches us that greatness does not come from worldly experience or pedigree, but rather from a heart willing to follow a higher calling.
Consider also David, a mere shepherd boy who, despite his youth and inexperience, was anointed king over seasoned warriors (1 Samuel 16). His rise to prominence exemplifies that true strength lies not in the status one holds, but in the courage to embrace one’s purpose.
Then we have Esther, a Jewish slave living in exile in Persia, who, against all odds, rose to become a queen and bravely saved her people from annihilation (Esther 2). Her journey reminds us that even those who feel small and powerless can have a monumental impact on the lives of many.
These profound examples illuminate a critical truth: authentic Christian leadership is deeply rooted in humility. It begins with recognizing our utter dependence on God’s grace and wisdom. Just as Gideon, David, and Esther surrendered personal ambitions to align with divine purpose, we too must strive to do the same.
In a world where ambition and self-promotion often come before humility, let us remember that our greatest achievements are the result of surrendering to His will. True leadership is not about being in charge; it’s about serving others with a grateful heart and a steadfast spirit. Despite our humble beginnings, we must strive to achieve great things for ourselves, our communities, and the world.
